July member sketch challenge

Hi this is Bente, and I'm here to share a sketch I made from a layout I found in the gallery.

Oh, I so enjoyed myself looking through all the inspirational pages that you posted in the gallery this last month. We truly have the best members here at the Nook and also without a doubt some of the most creative.

It was by no means an easy choice but there is something in this layout by Heather Robertson aka  scrappin_in_AK that is very appealing to me. Apart from the very cute picture of the sweet dog Sasha, I am drawn to the round circular design that also has two very distinct horisontal lines.

Heather used the July kit for this layout and as always you can find a lot more inspiration for your kit projects by browsing the member gallery.

scrappin_in_AK

For my sketch  I tried to follow Heather's design and also to keep it fairly open.
I know I prefer sketches to be pretty generic so that they are open to interpretation and different styles. .

To help showcase my sketch I asked Amélie aka Choup72 who's layout was picked for the sketch last month to join me.

Here is a little bit about Amélie:

Hi!
My name is Amélie (Choup72 in scrap world). I’m 35 years old. I’m married and have two boys. The eldest is 7 years old and the second is just 15 months!
I live in France near the town of Le Mans.
I made scrap since the birth of my first child. I was willing to make him a birth’s album and since I have never stopped! I’m totally scrap addict. I do lot of thing around scrap! I manage a French very active forum named Made in Scrap (http://madeinscrap.forumactif.org/).  It’s really a passion!!
I scrap whenever I have some time!
I always loved manual leisure, drawing, painting … Scrapbooking allows me to give expression to this artistic side. It is also a good way to get away and leave the stress of my professional life. When I am on a project, I forget everything! I focus on my picture and everything comes magically! I love to create and play with my papers!
I love making layouts and cards and occasionally mini-books. And as you can see, I love stitching and layering.
I’m currently DT for a French brand of paper Swirlcards (http://papershop.swirlcards.com/), for a customizable flair buttons‘s brand named Scrapbuttons  (http://scrapbuttons.over-blog.com/) and for the German shop Scrapbook Werkstatt (http://www.scrapbook-werkstatt.de/) .
From September, I will also integrate the Pebbles’s Design Team! I am very honored!
If you want to visit me, it’s here:
See you soon !

Amélie

And here is Amélies beautiful interpretation of the sketch:

Thank you so much Amélie for taking part and sharing your layout with us!! And congratulations to your new DT spot with Pebbles Inc. They are lucky to have you!

This stunning page was made by Carol from the DT:

Keep uploading your gorgeous work to the gallery and you may be the Nook's next guest designer.

I hope you have a great week!

July Altered Project Class

Hi Everyone! I am excited to share my first altered project with you.

This was the inspiration for my project...while staying at one of the hotels on vacation, I saw this mirror and took a photo of it.
When I got home, I remembered I had this $2 mirror I had picked up at Target awhile ago and I knew it would be perfect.
I measured the width around the mirror.
Then cut out several strips of pattern paper from the July kit.
Grabbed my stylus (a pencil would work too) and started rolling the paper.
Trimmed it.
Then using a really good quick dry glue, I held it together until it stayed.
Now I grabbed my supplies and sat in the kitchen with the family while I rolled (and my family got a little creative with me too)
Once I had enough rolls to fill up the frame, I placed them where I wanted them, and glued them all down.
I could have stopped there, but I didn't...I added the garland from the July kit to the mirror, using the same Zip Dry glue.
The last two things I did, were fussy cut a flower from the pattern paper, stitched around it, added a button and twine on top. And using some wire, I cut these leaves with the silhouette, then cut several notches in it to resemble a feather...glued under the flower and twisted it where I liked it. That was a last minute inspiration from all of the feathers that I saw from the CHA photos.
I really enjoyed altering this mirror. I wish I had bought more of them. The papers really dressed this up. Hope you find some inspiration from this!

Friday Fave - July 27th

Hello friends! I think it is no surprise I love to look through the gallery. The Nook really has some of the best inspiration. Ladies, you are amazing.

For this week, going through the kit gallery, I spied this lovely layout from Sherri.

I love the playfulness of this layout, those photos are adorable with the title. And the layering, the way she used the Jillibean Soup labels to frame each photo is so clever, not to mention the twine wrapped around all three photos! The little strips of pattern paper, the splatters, the popped up circles, and the brads in the sun are just adorable and finish off this layout perfectly. It just makes this so fun and eye pleasing. Thank you, Sherri, for sharing your work!

Hoping everyone has a great weekend!

Celebrate Summer - Photo Inspiration Challenge

The Celebrate Summer challenges are still going!  My challenge to you is to use this photo as inspiration to create a layout, card, project, anything!
It is really hot and humid where I live...and when I saw this, I thought of so many different ways to interrupt this into a layout.  Swimming, drinking a cook drink, eating fresh fruit, the colors, the design on the sign.

The photo inspired the circles and the idea of how I like to cool off.  We have lots of frozen yogurt places popping up, but this one place is my favorite.  It can be so hot outside, but I feel so refreshed and chilled for at least a little while.  I pulled out the greens and the yellows from the June Nook kit using Simple Stories Summer Fresh, and accented with some pink.
Can't wait to see how this photo inspires you!

July Technique Class ~ Adding texture using stamps

Are you up for another class using the yummy July kit?

Glad to hear it!
I love stamping and I have been trying to use my stamp more on my layouts. One of my fave ways of using my background stamps is to add "texture" to my layouts.

Even though the stamped image is completely flat it can add a subtle texture to any layout.

First I layered my patterned paper on top of my cardstock, Glimmer misted the background and now it is ready to be stamped.

Ink the stamp with your ink of choice (I used Tim Holtz Distress ink In Vintage Photo) and stamp away.

Then your "texture" should be ready to embellish with your fave embellishments!

I hope you enjoyed this little class and don't forget to share your stamped "textures" in the Nook gallery!

July Multiphoto class

Hi there girls and welcome to this month's multiphoto class.

I have always liked multiphoto layouts but with my "white space" style I can't see myself using big photos. They'd fill up too much space and that is just not me. Still some memories need more photos. So here is my technique: make them smaller. Reduce your photos in size and you'll be able to fit plenty more on a layout. You can use photoshop, the gimp, picasa and there are many other programs that can help you.

For this class I have created a layout using a series of 4 small photos and of course the July My Scrapbook Nook kit. There are quite a few photos showing how the layout come about. I hope this class has taught you something, I for one loved creating this layout and photo tutorial.

Supplies: July kit, tag /brads / doilies / stamps / and buttons from my stash, gesso, page from an old book.

Step 1:
Take your background paper and add some gesso using a credit card (old one.)

STep 2:

Tear a page from an old book and place it on the layout.

Step 3:
Cut out two pieces of different patterned papers and layer them beneath your photos.

Step 4: Add a tag, doilies and diecuts.

Step 5:
Add two pieces of PP to either side of the cluster on a diagonal. Cut some of the metal MME flowers into pieces an place them with the buttons. I created three embellishment clusters each with one button, a "bling" pearl and a petal from the metal flower.

Step 6: Stamp to create a "flow"

Step 7: Add your title, journalling and more stamping if desired.
